Your First Visit

Your first visit to Mia Orthodontics is an important step, and we’re here to make it as smooth and reassuring as possible. From the moment you walk through our doors, our team is focused on getting to know you, understanding your goals, and laying the foundation for a successful smile transformation.

During your initial consultation, we’ll begin with a thorough evaluation of your oral health, including a review of your medical and dental history. Using state-of-the-art digital imaging and 3D scans, we assess the position of your teeth, jaw alignment, airway health, and overall function. This detailed diagnostic process allows us to map out your unique treatment plan with accuracy and confidence.

Your First Visit

After the evaluation, we’ll walk you through your customized treatment options—whether it’s braces, clear aligners, hybrid care, or a more advanced solution. You’ll receive clear, honest answers about what to expect in terms of timeline, cost, and next steps. We’ll also take time to address any questions or concerns you have, so you can move forward feeling fully informed and supported.

Our goal is to make your first visit both informative and empowering. We’re not just evaluating your teeth—we’re building a relationship based on trust, transparency, and personalized care. By the end of your consultation, you’ll leave with a clear treatment plan and the confidence of knowing you’re in expert hands at Mia Orthodontics.

Care & Instructions

Care & Instructions

Orthodontic treatment doesn’t stop when you leave our office—how you care for your appliances at home plays a big role in your progress and final results. Whether you’re in braces, retainers, or clear aligners, following proper care instructions will help keep your treatment on track and your smile healthy.

Braces Care

Wearing braces means committing to a slightly more detailed oral hygiene routine. To avoid delays or discomfort, follow these care tips:

  • Brush thoroughly after every meal using a soft-bristle toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Don’t forget to clean around brackets and wires.
  • Floss daily with a floss threader or orthodontic flosser to clean between teeth.
  • Avoid sticky, hard, or crunchy foods that can break brackets or bend wires—this includes gum, popcorn, nuts, and hard candies.
  • If a bracket comes loose or a wire is poking, call our office—we’ll guide you on what to do until we can fix it.
  • Use wax on any spots causing irritation inside your mouth.

Keeping up with these habits will help prevent cavities, stains, or delays in treatment, ensuring your smile stays on track.

Retainer Care

Your retainer is essential for maintaining the beautiful results of your orthodontic treatment. Whether removable or fixed, it’s important to care for your retainer properly:

  • Wear your retainer exactly as directed, especially during the first months after treatment when your teeth are most likely to shift.
  • Clean removable retainers daily with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water—avoid hot water, which can warp the plastic.
  • Store your retainer in its case when not in use, and never wrap it in a napkin (it’s easy to throw away by accident!).
  • For fixed (bonded) retainers, floss daily with a floss threader and maintain regular dental cleanings.

If your retainer feels tight, loose, or doesn’t fit properly, contact us right away—we may need to make adjustments to prevent unwanted tooth movement.

Aligner Care

To get the most out of your clear aligners (like Invisalign, ULab, or in-house aligners), proper care is key. Follow these simple steps:

  • Wear aligners for 20–22 hours per day, removing only for eating, drinking (except water), brushing, and flossing.
  • Clean aligners daily using clear, unscented soap and a soft toothbrush. Avoid using toothpaste, as it can scratch the plastic.
  • Rinse aligners before putting them back in to avoid trapping food or bacteria.
  • Always store your aligners in their case when not in use to avoid loss or damage.
  • If an aligner cracks, doesn’t fit well, or is lost, let us know—we’ll guide you on what to do next to stay on track.

Following these care instructions will help you achieve your desired results on time, and keep your aligners looking and feeling fresh throughout your treatment.
